Sara Leopold was born and raised in South Florida and is excited to be living and practicing law in Wilmington, NC, where her family laid roots over a century ago. Sara’s mother is a Wilmington native and she spent her summers as a child on Wrightsville beach visiting family. Being a middle child and the only daughter of a skilled trial attorney, Sara discovered her passion for advocacy at a young age.
Not knowing she would eventually end up on a path to being a lawyer, Sara attended Curry College in Milton, MA where she earned a BA in Studio Arts, primarily working in the mediums of painting and printmaking. After college, Sara worked in retail for a few years before setting her sights on law school.
Sara attended Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama, where her father went, and from there she excelled in her law school career. While in law school, Sara realized that her advocacy skills could be used to protect the rights of animals as well as humans. She founded the Cumberland Chapter of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund and spent a summer clerking for the Humane Society of the United States in Washington, DC where her favorite co-workers were the furry friend’s employees brought to work. Sara graduated from Cumberland in May 2018 and has since been licensed to practice law in both Alabama and North Carolina.
As one of the newest attorney’s at Shipman & Wright, Sara is gaining experience in all the different practice areas and honing her skills in the courtroom.
