Shipman & Wright represents the plaintiffs in a complaint against the City of Boiling Springs Lake. The City has long attempted to avoid responsibility for ongoing drainage problems in the area surrounding the Highlands community. Following major flooding caused by Potential Tropical Cyclone 8, the City continues to avoid acknowledging the need to improve and maintain its public drainage infrastructure.

“To have a government attempt to deflect responsibility for that to my clients is not fulfilling the role of government. The role of government is to be truthful, and that didn’t happen here,” Shipman & Wright managing partner Gary Shipman recently told WECT.

As stated in the Oct. 23 complaint, filed in Brunswick County Superior Court, the City has failed to take responsibility for maintaining the city-owned drainage infrastructure adjacent to the Highlands community. In a meeting held by City leaders with neighborhood residents on Oct. 17, the City spread false information in an attempt to shift the responsibility of maintaining public infrastructure onto our clients.

Shipman & Wright stands with the residents of Boiling Springs Lake who were impacted by the devastating flooding caused by Potential Tropical Cyclone 8. Our goal is to hold the city accountable for its inability to maintain the public drainage infrastructure in Boiling Springs Lake and to prevent similar governmental neglect in the future.
