Leading our Mitigation, Resolution & Tax Relief / Controversy practice, Josh provides representation before various administrative agencies and courts (IRS, NC Department of Revenue, U.S. Tax Court, and federal and state courts).

Josh strives to provide tax and financial relief by working toward resolving controversies in a non-contentious manner allowing our clients to focus on their day-to-day business and personal lives without needless distraction while maximizing client rights and opportunities for relief.

His practice focus includes mitigation and guiding debtor clients through complex personal and commercial workouts and restructurings (loan, lease, credit, tax, and compliance matters) to avoid Chapter 11, 13, or 7 proceedings.

Josh, with over 30 years of business ownership and management experience, is deeply skilled in navigating multiple levels of federal, local, and state government agencies, GSA leasing, contract, lender compliance, construction compliance, and varied lender and vendor issues.

Having worked for private equity, lenders, borrowers, and REITs through his own company, Josh offers a wide range of operational experience from directing staff and leasing for real estate portfolios, including Attorneys, Asset Managers, Building Managers, and Construction while implementing long-range strategic real estate plans for specific U.S. market areas to maximize the quality of real estate, market share, and profitability all while navigating various administrative compliance agencies.

Josh is practiced in complex commercial purchase matters on behalf of buyers and sellers; lessors and lessees and has structured complex and substantial lease transactions on behalf of both landlords and tenants in connection with office, retail, and ground leases.

In addition to administering commercial real estate assets totaling over 3.5 million rentable square feet of Class A & B space, Josh has negotiated and supervised build-to-suits, tenant improvements, commercial interior, and infrastructure constructions (legal and physical) for landlords and the GSA.

In addition, Josh has served as a court-appointed receiver in connection with a national multi-family mortgage fraud and insolvency case involving civil and criminal wrongdoing while working with a global receiver and federal prosecutors.

Josh grew up in Texas in the 80s where he attended college and graduate school ultimately finding his way to New York where he worked professionally in commercial real estate during the “.com” revolution and was involved in the transformation of lower Manhattan into the “Silicon Alley” real estate corridor.

Shortly after meeting the love of his life in NYC, they made their way to Texas briefly for a senior opportunity in a corporate position. It didn’t take long for Josh to learn that the narrow confines of a large company were not a good fit for him. He started his own company at that point and has been an entrepreneur ever since which has helped him become a creative problem solver.

After falling in love with North Carolina during a brief visit, Josh made his way to Raleigh in 2004 with his wife and partner of over 22 years to be closer to family because it felt like a perfect place to call home. They have two fur babies.

In his spare time, Josh is home centric and enjoys cooking, grilling, and playing music with family and friends. He also actively enjoys the outdoors in our beautiful and biologically diverse state and can be found running around the woods hunting for mushrooms as an amateur mycologist certified in wild mushroom identification and toxicology.
